Cost management jobs

Cost management jobs bear similarities to quantity surveying work. Cost management is a job title that is used by project management and cost consultancies for work that is mainly focused on assisting and being part of a commercial team within the construction industry.

Qualifications for cost management jobs

Individuals working in cost management jobs will assist or manage a wide range of projects of varying sizes and be comfortable communicating on the key financial issues surrounding any given construction project. They will need to keep abreast of changes in building regulations and labour and materials costs and they likely impact on a project being completed to time and budget. 

To be successful you would typically have cost management career experience in a similar job within a cost/project management consultancy. Individuals who are degree qualified in cost management or quantity surveying/RICS/APC are highly sought after, although this is not essential. Within cost management jobs training and development is often offered. Sponsorship for completing a degree or further studies or the opportunity to do APC Training whilst working is common.

Clients are increasingly seeking individuals with substantial experience and senior appointments are becoming more popular. Salary levels are quite competitive industry-wide and many cost management jobs offer good benefits and base salaries. Reward packages do vary but typically they include a car or car allowance, healthcare, pension and generous annual leave.
